Event 38 Discusses Business Opportunities
for Drones in Rwanda

November 6, 2015

Akron, Ohio – The Honorable Mathilde Mukantabana, Rwandan Ambassador to U.S. spoke about key advances being made in Rwanda at a Walsh University presentation last night. Accompanied by the Rwandan Commercial Attache Bonny Musefano,  Ambassador Mukantabana talked about the tremendous progress in rebuilding the country that has been accomplished since the civil atrocities of the mid 1990’s.

Both culturally, and economically, Rwanda is implementing strong initiatives in both technology and agriculture. “We are making it easy for companies to come here and do business, and we value the partnerships we are building with commercial and academic organizations all over the world. We work hand in hand with our partners to build sustainable relationships”.

Event 38 CEO, Jeff Taylor and COO John Blair then met privately with Mukantabana and Musefano and discussed a wide range of topics including potential drone related opportunities in Rwanda including:

  • Development of a drone education and pilot/operator training school to make Rwanda a hub for African drone operator training
  • Application programming and data analysis opportunities for Rwandan technologists
  • Creation of a drone services industry with a focus on:
  • Agriculture
  • Surveying
  • Environmental conservation
  • Construction
  • Emergency services and supplies delivery
  • Photography services

Said Taylor, “We are grateful for the opportunity to see how we can contribute to the wonderful growth initiatives that Rwanda has undertaken. Earlier this year we met with a delegation of young Rwandans and were very impressed with their technical talent and enthusiasm despite their difficult past.”

Special thanks go to Dr. Carole Mount, Dean of the DeVille School of Business and Dr. Michelle Spain, Associate Professor of Business & Director of the Center for Business Collaboration for coordinating the event. Dr. Spain is a strong advocate for entrepreneurial growth throughout Ohio and the US.
